Lest you forget

Your sacred writ

To honor God

As “Divine Providence”

With firm reliance

Upon His protection

To liberate you

From your oppressive brethren

By justice and prudence

You did pursue

Life, liberty, and happiness

And founded anew

A declaration of which you

proved such a truth was self-evident

That “All men are created

equal,” is “Unalienable”

Clear as the laws of nature,

Such as boy meets girl

And that evil seeds do grow and spread

Before a candid world

“Established government,” is my frame

it should not be changed

“For light and transient causes”

Were made to be retained

For the soldiers who upheld

My honor by their blood

And the vision of their fathers

Who died in hope of good

I am America,

God’s country

Remember me

You could be my equal,

if only I could think

past the chains

of generations of slaves

told you are better than me.

You could be my equal,

if only I could know

that the sovereign God

who made us one

with a single breath did so.

You could be my equal,

if only I could walk

the pathway of my secret dreams;

let the proud naysayers talk.

You could be my equal,

I set out to run

and focus on the course begun,

not status quos or rich men’s woes.

You could be my equal;

thus, I mount up to fly

and soar to liberty and heights beyond

the natural course and sky.

You could be my equal,

if only I believed

that he of whom the Son sets free

is most free indeed.

How far can we go

to the sky?

to the moon?

I would like to know

How high can we reach

As far as we hope?

As great as we think?

Before pride brings us low

How bright will we be

As bright as the stars?

Shining over history?

The brightest of humanity?

Time cheers us on

Learn and grow!

Forward we go

Go man! Go!

Love is a Sea:

From its surface to its depth

Love is as vast as the sea

It has many expressions

And takes on many forms

Thus, it is immeasurably

defined

By its massive wave of captives

Love is An Attraction:

“It is his business sense,

And dark chocolate handsomeness

Which appeals to me;

Her classy act

And striking beauty;

A loyal friend

The bond of sisterhood

A covenant promise

Remembered when

I am in love with me

Without end

Love is a Knowing:

To experience love

is to travel in dimensions

upward is an eagle’s flight of paradise

Downward is a thrust into a lion’s den of jealousy;

To taste the esteemed honor of kings

And to be branded by its torch humiliating

Love is a Feeling:

I feel the streams of a river quietly

flowing through my veins

The longing of your touch

beckons from my loins and frame

I am caught in the dream;

What more draws me to you

I do not yet discern the imbue

All perception is lost in the bed

of your marble green eyes

May this moment be sealed forever in time

Love is a Choice:

Although from within

a sound may echo

“His road is heartache,”

“Escape her while you can,”

I surrender my strength

as with the delight of a child in a play pen

Just the thought of him makes my heart race

Therefore, I will ponder on;

I know,

He drinks like a fish

She parties like an animal

He lies like a rug

She is not Your first choice for me

He is neither your second nor third

But I am in too deep

My soul is tied in the knot of him

Therefore, I hesitate to loosen myself

Lest my heart aches from the tear

Love is a Hope:

When I surrender my heart to you

I hope you will nurture it, protect it, and remember it;

My prayers shall be granted

We will blend

into the miracle

of one soul

Love is a Gift:

The ultimate

In its perfect season

it gives beyond reason;

He dove beneath the surface

into the deep

when we hated Him

He died for whoever would believe

on Christ’s words would experience the sea of love forever.

The world is a stage

“She’s two-faced”

And “Keep it Real,” Heel

Are all the ways

We wish to say,

“Be true to you”

Be true to you

Because the mask you see

Is only the me

I want you to

And you may never know

What’s hidden behind

This mind

Why do we wear so many masks

To impress the people

who put us last?

Gifted but arrogant

And scornful folks

Who use their power to control?

The demand we let people put on us

The rush

And for what?

To be like them?

To be like me?

Please!

And why do we try to

Hide what is true

Or try to justify by law

What we do?

Deep inside, there is a conscious

laying within us

That will one day

be a witness for or against us

The truth remains the same

Who I am today shouldn’t change

Who I am tomorrow

Unless, I have become better

than I was yesterday

I cannot be you

You cannot be me

And even if we tried

To duplicate the outside

If you knew my inner struggle

Would you want to be my double?

We put people higher than God

They let us down because

“He’s not who I though he was”

Well, what did you think?

Remember, God is the only

Authentic “G”

Just be true to you

Because a hypocrite is anybody trying to be somebody

Without issues while condemning everybody,

and nobody can be

So, in the end my friend

be true to you

That’s all you can do

Because when we all have to stand

With our masks in our hands

nobody can stand without sin

Without forgiveness from Him

Be True to You
